Have you ever wondered how you can have a relationship with God? God loves every soul He created and wants an eternal relationship with us (John 3:16). However, we were all born with a sinful nature, and therefore separated from Him in our sinful state (Romans 5:12). He sent Jesus Christ, His Son to pay for our sins so that we can be at peace with Him, enjoy His presence in our lives, and ultimately spend eternity with Him in Heaven. There are just two simple steps to receiving Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, now:

 

STEP 1

 

 ​Understand that you need to be saved - Sin is anything that displeases God and separates us from Him. The payment we make for our sins is spiritual death - permanent separation from God. Understand that every human being is born a sinner because of the sin of Adam and Eve, and that we will continue to sin and be liable for the consequences of our sins, until we are saved.  Romans 5:12 says that Adam’s spiritual death was passed down to all of humanity. This means we were all born spiritually dead - born with a fallen nature, and a natural tendency to sin. ​ 

 

Wherefore as by one man [Adam], sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned (Romans 5:12).​

 

For since death (spiritual and physical) came through a man [Adam], the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man [Jesus Christ] (1 Corinthians 15:21).

 

​The only way to be reconciled to God and have eternal life is to be born-again. There is the 'Physical Birth' and the 'Spiritual Birth'. The term 'Born-Again' means to be born a second time spiritually, in contrast to being born physically (in the flesh). ​

 

"Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God" (John 3:3).

 

​Understand that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Saviour - We are unable to please a perfect God by our own strength and morality. However, God sent His only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ to us. Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins, rose up from the dead, and made it possible for us to be saved. Jesus is the Mediator between God and man. We can only make things right with God, through Him.​ Without the saving grace of Jesus Christ, we would all be doomed to spend eternity in hell.

 

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23).

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16-17)​.

 

The salvation of Jesus Christ is a gift we receive by faith (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9). When we accept Jesus Christ, we are accepting His sacrifice for our sins by faith. Thereafter, the Holy Spirit dwells within us (Ephesians 1:13-14). The Holy Spirit helps us to live holy by convicting us of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8), thereby helping us to seek to please God and avoid sin.

 

​Admit that you are a sinner - This is a prerequisite to accepting Jesus Christ. To receive Him into our hearts, we need to first acknowledge that we are sinners, and that we are incapable of saving ourselves or pleasing God in any way. It is important to acknowledge that Jesus Christ paid the penalty for our sins. Not even our good deeds can make us righteous in the eyes of God, without Christ. ​

​

Be willing to turn from your sins - This is a key factor. You must be determined to repent of all your sins.  

​

STEP 2 ​

 

The big decision is whether or not you will receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.​

 

Confess Jesus as your Lord and Saviour - Say a prayer to God from the bottom of your heart. Here is an example prayer below:​

 

Dear God,

I confess that I am a sinner and separated from You because of my sins. Please forgive me. I am truly sorry, and now willing to turn from my sinful way of life. I believe that Your Son, Jesus died for My sins, was resurrected from the dead, and is alive.  I confess Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour, and invite Him to reign in my heart from this day forward. I thank You Jesus for dying for my sins so that I can be forgiven and have eternal life. Amen.​

 

The Bible says:​ If you confess with your mouth that "Jesus is Lord", and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:9-10). ​If you said the prayer of salvation above from the bottom of your heart, we rejoice with you because you are now a child of God.

 

Once Steps 1 and 2 are taken, God then calls you His child.​

 

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who  believe in His Name (John 1:12-13).

 

The Holy Spirit also comes to dwell in you from then onwards. Your body becomes His temple - you cease to be your own (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

Having heard the word of the truth, the Good News of your salvation- having also believed in Jesus Christ, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is a pledge of our inheritance, to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory (Ephesians 1:13-14).

 

​Congratulations! You are now part of the family of God, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light (Colossians 1:12), part of a Royal Priesthood, and the Chosen of the Lord.

​THE CHRISTIAN RACE​​

​

When we have received Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, all does not end with the short prayer of salvation. We begin to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. It is important to emphasize here that we do not work FOR salvation, but do need to work it OUT. The Holy Spirit enables us to do this, with our cooperation. Certain things are required to work out your salvation. They enable you to maintain your relationship with the Lord.  More>>>
